WHAT IS ACTIVE ACNE TREATMENT?
Active acne treatment refers to the treatments used to treat acne that is currently occurring on the skin. At Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute, we use IPL therapy for acne. IPL, or intense pulse light, delivers precise light energy to the skin. This energy targets the acne-causing bacteria in the skin while preserving the health of the skin around it. IPL treatments simultaneously treat acne while preventing new acne from being produced.

HOW IS ACTIVE ACNE TREATMENT PERFORMED?
Before treatment, the skin is cleansed and a gel is applied to the area being treated. Protective eyewear is worn to prevent any damage to the patient’s eyes. The IPL energy is carefully applied using a specially designed handpiece, which may cause mild discomfort that resembles stinging. This process takes approximately 30 minutes.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM ACTIVE ACNE TREATMENT?
After your treatment, you can expect some results, although it can take a few days for the skin to fully recover from the treatment. This means that you may experience some redness in the meantime. For acne treatments, patients typically require multiple appointments to achieve the full effect of IPL treatment, which needs to be scheduled a few weeks apart. This reduces the chance of blemishes appearing and reduces the size of pores.
